HCV Awareness: Get tested!

HCV Awareness: Get tested!

Recognizing that up to 75% of HepatitisC (HCV) infected individuals are unaware of their health status, the newest CDC guidelines recommend that all persons born from 1945 through 1965 be screened at least once for HCV. Other 'atrisk' groups are recommended to get tested. These guidelines are available at http://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/hcv/guidelinesc.htm. If you are in one of these groups, please get tested. I recently lost a highschool friend who was among the 75% that never knew he had liver issues.

Current therapies with high cure rates can help eradicate most HCV genotypeswith new therapies on the horizon for the remaining genotypes. Our current manuscript is our third on HCV and focuses on the impact of various stages. The abstract is available at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26047262
